HL Deb 07 May 2003 vol 647 cc142-3WA
Baroness Masham of Ilkon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What evidence they have of alleged discriminatory attitudes towards surgery for people with Down's Syndrome. [HL2601]

Baroness Andrews

We have no evidence of discrimination against people with Down's Syndrome. People with Down's Syndrome have the same rights of access to health and social services as anyone else. They should not be discriminated against simply because they have a learning disability. Where discrimination can be shown the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act apply.
