HL Deb 13 January 2003 vol 643 cc22-3WA
Lord Hardy of Wath

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action is being taken to prevent deer or hare coursing which is currently unlawful. [HL901]

Lord Whitty

It is a matter for the chief constables to determine the policing priorities within his or her area and to ensure the enforcement of the relevant legislation.

The Hunting Bill will have dedicated provisions in regard to unlawful hare coursing, giving the police the power of arrest, a fine of up to £5,000 and a power of confiscation of animals and equipment.
