Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have approved the publication of the report of the second quinquennial review of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. [HL2112]

Lord Hunt of Kings Heath

The report of the second quinquennial review of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has been approved and copies have been placed in the Library today. This was a thorough review of the authority and its work which included wide consultation with the public, service users and providers. The report acknowledges the value of the authority's role in this highly sensitive area.

The report makes important recommendations. Work on introducing improved quality assurance systems is in hand and we are working with the authority to agree an implementation plan for the other recommendations.
