To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was(a) the incidence of breast cancer by age breakdown and (b) the numbers of deaths from breast cancer among women in England for the latest year for which figures are available. [88658]

Letter from John Fox to Ms Linda Perham, dated 29 June 1999: The Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has been asked to reply to your parliamentary question concerning the incidence of and deaths from breast cancer. The number of newly diagnosed cases of female breast cancer (coded to International Classification of Diseases Ninth Revision [ICD9] 174) in England in 1994, the latest year for which data are available, appeared in a Parliamentary answer on 17 May (Hansard 90, column 281). The mortality data requested are shown in the table below.
