HC Deb 16 June 1999 vol 333 c168W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the pay rates of Cabinet staff of European Commissioners. [86728]

Ms Hewitt

Members of Cabinets in the European Commission are either permanent Commission staff, or employed as 'temporary agents'. If they are permanent staff, they are paid in accordance with the Commission Staff Regulations, with rates determined by their grade. If they are temporary agents, they are appointed in accordance with the Staff Regulations, their position on the pay scale being determined in line with their age and experience according to strict guidelines that apply to all community appointments. Rates of pay for individual Cabinet members are a matter for the Commission and the individual concerned.
