Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of total investment in (a) the United Kingdom, (b) the Australian and (c) the New Zealand economy was accounted for by gross foreign direct investments in each year since 1970. [92682]

The proportion of foreign direct investment in the UK of total investment over the last ten years, expressed as a percentage is:

  • 1989: 16.7
  • 1990: 16.2
  • 1991: 8.7
  • 1992: 9.2
  • 1993: 10.2
  • 1994: 5.7
  • 1995: 11.1
  • 1996: 13.2
  • 1997: 16.9
  • 1998: 26.2
