§ Ms HewittThe Treasury is responsible for policy relating to the Building Societies Acts. I and my predecessor as Economic Secretary, my right hon. Friend the Member for Airdrie and Shotts (Mrs. Liddell), have dealt with this area since May 1997. Prudential supervision of societies is a matter for the Building Societies Commission.
