To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what representations he has received on the SSA levels for(a) education provision and (b) social services provision in North Yorkshire; and if he will make a statement. [72161]

Ms Armstrong

During the consultation period on the Local Government Finance Settlement for 1999–2000, Ministers received four formal representations from Members of Parliament or from the local authority concerning the SSA level for social services funding in North Yorkshire. No representations were received concerning the SSA level for the education budget.

All of the issues raised in the representations have been taken into account in the final settlement.

Ms Armstrong

The Deputy Prime Minister has no plans at present to visit North Yorkshire to discuss these matters.
