HC Deb 19 October 1998 vol 317 c922W
Mr. Clifton-Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what use(a) his Department and (b) its agencies are currently making of the Government Purchase Card; what savings he estimates are being achieved as a result; what plans he has to expand use of the card by his Department and its agencies; and if he will make a statement. [55166]

Ms Hewitt

The Treasury and its agency, the Debt Management Office, introduced the Government Procurement Card in May of this year and it is now in its third month of live use. There are currently 41 cardholders. The potential savings made until the 23 July were in the region of £4,000 on 129 transactions with a value of £13,800. The departmental policy encourages anyone to have a card who needs to buy low value items for operational reasons.
