HC Deb 16 November 1998 vol 319 c363W
Mr. Webb

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the number of firms whose liability to pass on income tax and NICs collected from their employees is likely to be less than their liability to pay working families tax credit to their employees. [59450]

Ms Hewitt

[holding answer 12 November 1998]: The Government's intention is that any employers who can show that the income tax and NICs which they collect will not be sufficient to pay working families' tax credit to their employees will be able to obtain funding from the Inland Revenue. Reliable estimates of the number of firms which might be involved are not available at this stage.
