HC Deb 16 November 1998 vol 319 cc411-2W
Mrs. May

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how much of the £16 billion extra expenditure on education over the next three years, excluding that accounted for by increases in education standard spending assessments, capital funds and the standards fund, will be available for direct expenditure by schools. [59833]

Ms Estelle Morris

The majority of the £16 billion for education in England announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review will reach schools through Education Standard Spending, capital funds and the Standards Fund. Schools will benefit from direct grant funding for reducing class sizes where a total of £560 million will be spent from 1999 to 2002, and from programmes such as the new Education Action Zones. Full details will be published in my Department's Annual Report in the Spring.
