§ Mr. Nigel GriffithsThe number of persons injured by fireworks during the 1997 firework season was 908. This represents a fall of 26% compared with the previous year. This significant fall is I believe due to the fireworks safety Regulations introduced in October and the very effective firework safety campaign run by my Department in the run-up to Bonfire Night.
Copies of the DTI's Firework Injury Survey are being placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
