§ Dawn PrimaroloCustoms does not have a reliable estimate of the proportion of heroin which enters the United Kingdom via Turkey. The amount Customs seized during 1997 known to have originated in or transited through Turkey was 1037.33 kilograms which represented 59.37 per cent. of the total amount of heroin seized by Customs during that year, but Customs assess that around 80 per cent. of the total seized has arrived from Turkey.
