HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c83W
Mrs. Roche

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment his Department has made of the extra work that will be imposed on small firms by measures in the Asylum and Immigration Bill. [28150]

Miss Widdecombe

We do not expect that our proposals on the prevention of illegal working will affect small businesses disproportionately. We intend to keep the burden on all employers to a minimum, and will have this in mind in the preparation of guidance. The responses to our consultation document and compliance cost assessment lead us to think that the compliance costs for small business will, in the main, be minimal.
