HC Deb 26 March 1996 vol 274 cc484-5W
Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many claimants have been suspended from benefit for not actively seeking work in the Hammersmith and Fulham area in the last 18 months. [21164]

Mr. Forth

Responsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Mike Fogden to Mr. Clive Soley, dated 26 March 1996: The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question about the number of claimants who have been suspended from benefit for not actively seeking work in the Hammersmith and Fulham area in the last 18 months. We do not record statistics relating to periods of suspension for actively seeking work. However, we do publish, quarterly, half yearly and yearly reports on the volumes of adjudicated decisions both nationally and by Employment Service region. This information is not broken down into parliamentary constituencies. Any statistical information in respect of Hammersmith and Fulham is included in the entry for London and South East. The publication, entitled "Analysis of Adjudication Officers' Decisions", details cases allowed and disqualified (or disallowed), by question type. The latest information can be obtained from the House of Commons library. I hope this is helpful.
