[holding answer 15 May 1995]: At present two trainers at the Police Staff College are graduates of courses provided by the Home Office specialist support unit.

Mr. Bernie Grant

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what reports he has received from the Association of Chief Police Officers regarding the effectiveness of the training in race and community relations carried out by the HOSSU; [24347]

(2) what representations he has received from the Association of Chief Police Officers regarding the training in race and community relations provided by the HOSSU. [24345]

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 15 May 1995]: None. However, the work of the Home Office Specialist Support Unit is overseen by a Management Board on which ACPO is represented.

Mr. Bernie Grant

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the ID codes for negroid types, including mulatto, octoroon, and quadroon have been removed from the pocket books issued to(a) Metropolitan police officers and (b) other forces; and if he will make a statement. [24342]

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 15 May 1995]: The provision of pocket books for police officers is a matter for chief officers. I understand that the pocket book issued to officers in the Metropolitan police service was updated in 1993 without these classifications. Some of the old books may remain in circulation but steps are being taken to replace them. I am not aware that the same classifications have been used in other forces.
