HL Deb 18 December 1995 vol 567 cc122-3WA
Viscount Montgomery of Alamein

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking in respect of commencement of Sections 166 and 167 of the Pensions Act 1995.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

Work on regulations bringing into force Sections 166 and 167 of the Pensions Act 1995 has highlighted certain complex issues requiring further thought. To ensure that these issues are fully considered and that consultees have sufficient time to comment on the proposals, the Government are now aiming to bring both sections into force on 1 July 1996. Orders requiring schemes to make periodical payments direct to a former spouse under Section 166 will take effect from April 1997 as originally envisaged.
