HL Deb 10 October 1994 vol 557 c91WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the reply of 21st July by Baroness Chalker of Wallasey (col. WA 41) concerning the Genocide Convention means that they are not aware of a single instance of a state acting under either Article II or VIII of the convention since it came into force on 12th January 1961.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The most recent occasions on which States have called upon the competent organs of the United Nations to take action for the prevention and suppression of acts of genocide, as specified in Articles I and VIII of the Genocide Convention, concerned the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.
