HL Deb 25 May 1994 vol 555 c38WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What further information they have sought from the Sri Lankan authorities concerning the abduction and murder of 31 schoolboys, 20 of whom were from Embilipitiya Maba Vidyalaya (High School), in December 1989, following the statement made by Mr. Nihal Rodrigo on 17th February at the UN Human Rights Commission; and whether they will ask in particular, why the 12 soldiers named as responsible for this atrocity by retired Supreme Court Judge Mr. Justice J. F. A. Soza have neither been prosecuted nor suspended from their posts.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We continue to take every opportunity to urge the Sri Lankan authorities to prosecute those accused of responsibility for the disappearances of the schoolchildren from Embilipitiya. They remain fully aware of the importance we attach to seeing justice done.
