HL Deb 12 May 1994 vol 554 c93WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that, following a visit by Turkish Foreign Ministry Under Secretary Ozdem Sambak to Baghdad, Iraq has apparently agreed to a Turkish proposal that Turkey will extract, process and use oil trapped within the Iraq-Turkey pipeline; and whether they will draw the attention of the United Nations Security Council to this possible breach of the mandatory sanctions on Iraq.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

We are aware of this matter and are discussing it with members of the Security Council and the Turkish Government.

Sanctions on Iraq will remain in force until Iraq complies with its obligations under all relevant Security Council Resolutions.
