What are the number and percentage of the population living in electoral wards or postcode districts which qualify for deprivation payments to GPs (UPA scores of 30 or more), calculated from both the 1981 and 1991 censuses in: England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom as a. whole, Camden and Islington, Inner London, Outer London, Greater London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Birmingham and Bristol.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)The Under Privileged Area (UPA) Scores, calculated by Professor Jarman, are used to calculate general practitioner deprivation payments in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland use similar systems, but not one based on pure UPA scores.
Deprivation payments to GPs are based only on data from the 1981 population census, and these are therefore the only figures given.
