HL Deb 24 March 1994 vol 553 c32WA
Lord Marlesford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider the use of police officers with mountain bikes to patrol in the London parks.

Earl Ferrers

With the exception of the Royal Parks and Gardens, which have their own constabulary under the authority of my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for National Heritage, responsibility for policing London's parks lies with the Metropolitan Police.

I understand from the Commissioner that a number of his officers have been issued with mountain bikes. Decisions on operational matters of this sort would normally be taken by the divisional commander.
