HL Deb 23 March 1994 vol 553 cc25-6WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What amount of legal fees have been incurred in establishing 13 separate health and social services trusts in Northern Ireland.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

None. All legal services associated with the establishment of health and social services trusts in Northern Ireland have been provided by the Department of Health and Social Services.

Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the estimated annual costs of auditing the accounts of the new health and social services trusts in Northern Ireland, and whether these costs will be wholly additional.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

The estimated annual cost of auditing the six health and social services trusts which will submit accounts in respect of the year 1993-94 is £275,000. This cost does not include any expenditure in respect of value for money studies and is not wholly additional.

Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much of the £1.7 million net increase for health and social services trusts (NI Appropriation Order 1994, Official Report, col. 151 of 9 March) will be used for more or better community care, and how much for additional administrative costs.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

As existing health and social services trusts are in the acute sector all of the additional funds will be deployed to finance capital expenditure in this sector.
