asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish in the Official Report a copy of the Annual Census of Religious Registrations in Prison taken in February 1994.

Responsibility for the subject of this Question has been delegated to the Prison Service and its Director General, Mr. Derek Lewis. The Director General has therefore arranged for a response to the Question and the letter is given below.

Letter to Lord Avebury from the Director of Personnel and Services, HM Prison Service, Mr. A. J. Butler, dated 17th March 1994:

Lord Ferrers has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question to Her Majesty's Government about the publication of the annual census of religious registrations in prisons.

The information for prisons and young offender institutions in England and Wales is expected to be available shortly and arrangements will be made to publish it in the Official Report.
