HL Deb 02 March 1994 vol 552 cc76-7WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their policy towards the blockade and economic restrictions imposed by Greece on Macedonia, and whether this matter has been, or will be raised, in the EU, CSCE and other international fora.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Greek Government's restrictions are unjustifiable. My right honourable and learned friend the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs summoned the Greek Ambassador on 21 February, while my right honourable friend the Foreign Secretary again made our position clear to the Greek Government during his recent visit to Athens. The issue was discussed at the Foreign Affairs Council on 21 February. The European Commission has raised doubts about the legality of the Greek action.
