HL Deb 20 June 1994 vol 556 cc4-5WA
Lord Varley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What financial assistance they have made available to the East Midlands Development Corporation since it was established, and how this compares with assistance given to other publicly-supported regional development corporations.

Lord Strathclyde

The East Midlands Development Company was launched in April 1993, with support from local authorities, the private sector and my department. It received £250,000 of grant-in-aid in 1993–94 towards its setting up costs, and has been offered £400,000 of grant-in-aid for 1994–95, as it progressively builds up its programme of activities and local sponsorship. Details of grant offers to the other longer established RDOs for 1993–94 are as follows:

Regional Development Organisation Amount (£k)
Northern Development Company 1,493.50
INWARD 1,199.00
Yorkshire and Humberside Development Association 1,112.00
West Midlands Development Agency 828.25
