HL Deb 21 February 1994 vol 552 c37WA
Baroness Faithfull

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many blind-over orders were made against parents or guardians between 1st October 1992 and the most recent available date; what proportion of cases did this represent; and in how many cases have parents or guardians been required to forfeit their recognisance.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

From 1st October 1992 to 31st December 1992, the latest date for which information is available,97 bind-overs were ordered on parents or guardians of offenders aged 10 to under 18 years who were found guilty of a criminal offence. This represents less than one per cent. of the total of young offenders sentenced. Nineteen ninety-three data will not be available until autumn 1994.

Information is not collected centrally on the number of cases where the parents or guardians have been requested to forfeit their recognisance.
