HL Deb 29 April 1994 vol 554 c56WA
Lord Pearson of Rannoch

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that the European Community's structural funds are well invested in the recipient countries.

Lord Strathclyde

The Government are satisfied that operations in the United Kingdom represent good value for money. More generally in Europe, there is no evidence on which to take an overall judgment. However, the provisions of the 1993 structural funds regulations will ensure that the economic benefits of future operations are more transparently estimated, and that these estimates are used to influence grant decisions to a greater degreee than had been the case in the past.
