HC Deb 04 November 1993 vol 231 cc315-6W
Mr. Allason

To ask the Attorney-General if he will make a statement when a decision is taken as to the bringing of charges under the War Crimes Act 1991.

The Attorney-General

No. The Crown Prosecution Service is presently considering interim reports from the Metropolitan police relating to several individuals and further inquiries are being made. Inquiries are not yet complete and the question of possible prosecution cannot be considered until they are concluded. In accordance with the requirements of the War Crimes Act 1991, my consent would be sought in any case where the Crown Prosecution Service considers that proceedings are appropriate.

Decisions about prosecution will be communicated to the prospective defendant and other interested parties by the Crown Prosecution Service and the police in the usual manner.
