HC Deb 18 May 1993 vol 225 c104W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what aid has been given to the people of East Timor in the years following its annexation by Indonesia; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

None of Britain's aid to Indonesia has been used for projects in East Timor in the years since its annexation in 1975, but we are prepared to consider providing financial support for non-governmental organisations who might operate there.

With our EC partners, HMG continues to follow developments, including human rights, in East Timor closely and welcomes the resumption, under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General, of the Indonesian-Portuguese dialogue.
