HL Deb 04 May 1993 vol 545 c25WA
Baroness Elles

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether (a) there are any proposals before the United Nations to set up war crimes tribunals to try cases of crimes allegedly committed by military personnel and civilians since January 1992 in the former Yugoslavia, against their fellow citizens; and (b) whether any organisation has been set up or is contemplated, to collect evidence of such crimes.

Baroness Trumpington

On 22nd February the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 808, which decided to establish an ad hoc war crimes tribunal to try war crimes committed in former Yugolsavia since 1991. In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 780, adopted on 6th October 1992, the UN Secretary General has appointed a Commission of Experts to examine, analyse and investigate evidence of war crimes committed in former Yugoslavia.
