To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many(a) men and (b) women have undertaken approved social work training courses in each of the past 10 years; and how many are currently taking such courses.

[holding answer 15 March 1993]: The number of individuals entering approved qualifying courses in social work in Scotland is detailed in the table. No breakdown is available by gender.

There are currently 831 individuals taking qualifying courses in social work over two and in some cases three, years.

Information of the numbers completing approved social work training in Scotland over the last 10 years is not available separately from United Kingdom figures until 1991 when 417 persons completed such training.
