HL Deb 24 March 1993 vol 544 cc19-20WA
Lord Colwyn

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people in the United Kingdom, by total and by each health authority region, have had limb amputations as a result of peripheral ischaemia performed on the NHS in the latest three years for which records are known; how much these operations have cost and how much is the cost of post-operative care for each patient, including the cost of prosthesis and rehabilitation into the community; and whether any estimate can be made of how many of these operations were carried out before making any assessment of alternative treatments aimed at reversing the ischaemia.

Baroness Cumberlege

The available information is given in the table:

Previous years, information on costs, and information on any alternative treatments considered, is not available.
