HL Deb 24 March 1993 vol 544 c18WA
Lord Kilmarnock

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ask the London Implementation Group, appointed following the Tomlinson Report, to pay special attention in their recommendations to the number and distribution of GUM clinics in London, in view of their important role in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

The number and distribution of genito-urinary medicine clinics is a matter for local purchasers in the light of the health needs of their local populations. Health authorities are aware of the important role of GUM services in both the prevention and treatment of HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases.
