HL Deb 15 July 1993 vol 548 c25WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether in their road and population projections to the year 2025 (which include a doubling of car numbers, and an increase in population density from 620 per square mile to 664 column WA73, 15th June) they envisage any need to impose a limit on the acreage of land that might be adversely affected by roads, and if so when such a need might arise, and on which department falls the responsibility for identifying such a need.

The Earl of Caithness

It is not envisaged there will be a need to impose an overall limit on the acreage of land that might be affected by roads. However, in developing our proposals for road schemes we shall continue to take into account the environmental costs and benefits of each case, including the amount and type of land affected.
