HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c650W
Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the average cost to a local authority per household in(a) bed-and-breakfast accommodation, (b) local authority hostels, (c) local authority short-life accommodation and (d) temporary accommodation.

Mr. Raynsford

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the average cost per unit of accommodation in(a) bed-and-breakfast accommodation, (b) local authority hostels, (c) local authority short-life accommodation and (d) temporary accommodation, to a local authority (i) in the Greater London area and (ii) elsewhere in England.

Mr. Baldry

Annual costs for bed-and-breakfast accommodation used and hostel places provided by local authorities, together with the related numbers of accommodation units, can be derived from the information published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in "Homelessness Statistics 1990–91 Actuals", a copy of which is in the Library.

The CIPFA publication contains insufficient information on short-life and other temporary accommodation to derive average costs per household.

Expenditure information on homeless households in other forms of temporary accommodation is not available centrally and my Department has no estimates.
