HL Deb 15 February 1993 vol 542 c64WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek verifiable international agreements prohibiting the sale, transfer or export, and further limiting the use, production, possession and deployment of anti-personnel landmines.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

We believe that attention should be focused on the effective implementation of existing international agreements, rather than seeking new agreements. The United Kingdom is a signatory to the United Nations Weaponry Convention, which is the primary convention governing the use of mines.
