HL Deb 01 April 1993 vol 544 cc61-2WA
The Earl of Swinton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What changes they are making to the status of the Prison Service.

Earl Ferrers

The Prison Service becomes an executive agency of the Home Office with effect from 1st April. Its director general, Derek Lewis, is the chief executive of the agency and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Service. We are placing in the Library copies of the Prison Service's framework document, corporate plan, business plan and a statement of Citizen's Charter standards of service.
