HC Deb 20 May 1991 vol 191 cc349-50W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, following the conclusion of the Crown court case in Liverpool concerning the wardship of children involved in Operation Clementine, he has any plans to review procedures used in cases concerning allegations of child abuse; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I am not aware of any complaints about police procedures in this investigation, which was carried out by the Merseyside police and Liverpool social services department. My right hon. Friend has no plans for a fundamental review of police procedures. Home Office officials are assisting in the revision of "Working Together" which is being undertaken by the Department of Health. Some additional guidance for the police to complement Home Office circular 52/1988 is likely to be issued when the revised "Working Together" is published.
