HL Deb 02 May 1991 vol 528 c37WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take steps to establish direct postal links with Estonia.

The Minister of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Hesketh)

This is an operational matter for the Post Office. The present position is that airmail for Estonia is sent daily through Moscow while surface mail is shipped about twice a month via Leningrad. This conforms with the normal Post Office practice of despatching overseas items to the principal foreign mail handling centres in each country for sorting and onward transmission. The Post Office has received no complaints about the quality of the service to Estonia and has no plans to change the present arrangements.
