HL Deb 18 June 1991 vol 530 c12WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they expect to publish the results of their review of arrangements for persons seeking asylum in Britain from persecution, torture and death in other countries.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

My right honourable and honourable friends have announced in another place the introduction of a visa requirement for Ugandan nationals, who account for a significant proportion of asylum applicants in the United Kingdom, and an increase of nearly five-fold in staff resources for asylum determination and commensurate increases in other parts of the asylum system. The Government's review of asylum arrangements is continuing and further announcements will be made.
