HL Deb 11 June 1991 vol 529 cc55-6WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will propose in the United Nations that all work in Burma by United Nations agencies be suspended until the ruling military "Supreme Law and Order Restoration Council" hands over power to the democratically elected National League for Democracy.

The Earl of Caithness:

The United Nations agencies' projects in Burma are specifically targeted to benefit the Burmese population, not the ruling military council. We would not wish to discourage this work.
