HL Deb 02 July 1991 vol 530 cc57-8WA
The Viscount of Falkland

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have issued any guidance to local authorities as to the suitability of pet shop premises in terms of size, location, lighting, ventilation, cleanliness, and the provision of food and water.

Earl Ferrers

None. Under section 4(1) of the Pet Animals Act 1951, local authorities are able to authorise qualified veterinary surgeons to inspect licensed premises, if professional guidance is needed in a particular case, or more generally.
