HL Deb 16 October 1990 vol 522 cc880-1WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether China has been supplying Iraq with the means of producing enriched uranium suitable for nuclear missiles and if so, whether the trade has now ceased.

The Earl of Caithness

We are aware of recent reports in the media that the Chinese sold lithium hydride to Iraq; the Chinese authorities have denied this. Lithium hydride is not used in uranium enrichment, although it could have a nuclear weapons application.
