§ Mr. Alan HowarthIt is for independent schools to decide whether to adopt the national curriculum. Her Majesty's inspectors, in the course of their normal programme of inspecting independent schools, are monitoring the schools' intentions with regard to adopting this and the extent to which they are implementing it. My right hon. Friend is pleased that many are choosing to do so
