HL Deb 30 January 1990 vol 515 c291WA
Lord Ironside

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What cuts have now been made in the US Department of Defence budget for financial year 1990 in respect of the Trident programme and what effect these cuts will have on the United Kingdom Trident programme.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (The Earl of Arran)

The United States defence budget for fiscal year 1990 includes $1,440 million for Trident D5 production funding, a reduction of $360 million from the original budget request of $1,800 million. It is not envisaged that this reduction will have any effect on the timescale of the United Kingdom Trident programme, but there will be some small cost increase.
