HL Deb 14 February 1990 vol 515 cc1453-4WA
Lord Rippon of Hexham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many pages of delegated legislation were enacted for each year from 1974 to 1989.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

The only information that can be obtained without disproportionate cost being incurred is that contained in the Treasury Solicitor's annual reports to the Statute Law Committee on the work of the Statutory Publications Office. These give the size of recent annual editions of Statutory Instruments and show the number of pages of general (but not local) statutory instruments for the relevant years. These publications have been issued for complete years until 1987 and consequently the figures for 1988 and 1989 are not yet available. The number of pages for each year from 1974 to 1987 are as shown below:

Year Number of pages
1974 8680
1975 8653
1976 6305
1977 6224
1978 5862
1979 4719
1980 7390
1981 6521
1982 5540
1983 6405
1984 6062
1985 6476
1986 9048
1987 6266
