To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people in Halifax have applied for bridging allowance since September 1988.

Mr. Cope

As at 9 February the benefit-related payment system shows that 289 young people had received bridging allowance in Halifax since September 1988. There may also be a very small number who received clerical payments.
