HL Deb 03 April 1989 vol 505 c998WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the proposed visit to Ethiopia from May 29th to June 6th by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal is taking place on their advice, in view of their statement to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva on March 7th that 'there are reports of indiscriminate bombing and the use of napalm by Ethiopian forces against civilian populations in Tigre and Erithea'.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

The visit is being undertaken by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal in her capacity as President of the Save the Children Fund. The purpose is to see the excellent humanitarian work done in Ethiopia by the fund, one of the British non-governmental organisations to which we give support.
