HC Deb 19 October 1988 vol 138 cc864-5W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make: a statement on the future of community projects currently operated by the community programme in Nottingham and elsewhere.

Mr. Nicholls

Local officials of the Training Agency held a series of presentations with all community programme agents and sponsors to ensure, wherever possible, the satisfactory transition of community programme projects into employment training. Project-based places have an important role within employment training and substantial provision has been made for this in the new programme.

Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has had regarding redundancies in community task force.

Mr. Nicholls

In July 1988 community task force sought advice from the Training Agency about the issue of redundancy notices to CTF employees whose services would not be required from 5 September 1988.

In response, in August, the Training Agency outlined the procedures, which included details of financial help available to CP agents/sponsors, including CTF.

Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many employees of the community task force have had redundancy notices sent to them as a result of replacing the community programme and the jobs training scheme with the adult training programme.

Mr. Nicholls

A total of 235 employees were issued with redundancy notices by community task force as a result of the change to employment training.

All of those concerned had the opportunity to apply for alternative posts in employment training and in the event 138 people actually left.
